Lately, the topic of Metaverse has become one of the most talked about. It is an ambitious blockchain based platform that aims to create a new world, where digital assets are as easy to access and transfer as any other kind of asset, such as land or money. It also allows users to interact, create, trade and distribute virtual content without any sort of control.
In this video, we shall take a look at a project called Decentraland.
Let’s get started!
Before we discuss Decentraland, let’s define ethereum.
Ethereum is a decentralized platform that runs smart contracts or applications that run exactly as programmed, without any possibility of fraud, or third party interference. These apps are powered by ether, a cryptocurrency, whose value is determined by demand. Ether can be used to pay for goods and services on the Ethereum network, or held as an investment.
Decentraland is a virtual world built on the Ethereum network. It uses blockchain technology to manage land ownership and transactions. It also allows users to create and share experiences with each other in a completely decentralized way. Land parcels are stored on the blockchain, meaning they can never be taken away or destroyed!
So when you join, there are a plethora of things to do there, such as exploring other users’ land, play games, attend concerts, and even start your own business.
To get started, you’ll need a few things: a computer with a web browser, some ether to pay for goods and services in the land. To sign up, visit decentraland.org and follow the instructions there.
When you first enter Decentraland, you will be given a small amount of free MANA to start out with. This should be enough to explore the basics of the platform and get a sense for what Land is like.
To buy land and build your own experiences, you’ll need MANA. You can get MANA in a few ways: by mining it, buying it on an exchange, or participating in a crowd sale.
The price for land varies depending on its location and size. It starts at around 0.01 ether, but can go up or down, depending on demand. The more popular an area becomes, the higher the price of LAND will be.
Once you have some land, it’s time to start building! Head over to the Decentraland wiki for tutorials, on everything from creating basic shapes to scripting complex interactions. There are also plenty of users who are happy to help out newbies.
To explore places, simply utilize the “Explore” navigation or click the navigation map, or use the “Search” bar to look for specific parcels or users.
You can also visit other user-created experiences by clicking on the “Experiences” tab in the top navigation bar. This will take you to a curated list of some of the most interesting and well-made experiences that are available.
You can also check out the central plaza by clicking on “Central Plaza” tab. This is where all the latest exchanges, announcements and community-related activity takes place.
If you are a developer, you may participate in the development by visiting “DEV ZONE”.
